{"id":1967,"date":"2026-09-22T07:13:47","date_gmt":"2026-09-22T07:13:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hscodematch.com\/news\/india-sets-gold-at-1-373-per-10-grams-and-silver-at-2-028-per-kg-for\/"},"modified":"2026-09-30T07:43:48","modified_gmt":"2026-09-30T07:43:48","slug":"india-sets-gold-at-1-373-per-10-grams-and-silver-at-2-028-per-kg-for","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hscodematch.com\/news\/india-sets-gold-at-1-373-per-10-grams-and-silver-at-2-028-per-kg-for\/","title":{"rendered":"India Updates Edible Oil and Brass Scrap Tariff Values from 16 September"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph hsn-lede\">India issued Customs Notification No. 75\/2026-Customs (N.T.) to fix and update the tariff values for edible oils, brass scrap, areca nuts, gold, and silver, effective from September 16, 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India&#8217;s Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) set new tariff values for imports of palm oil, soybean oil, brass scrap, gold, silver and areca nuts, in force from Sept. 16, 2026<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\" id=\"hsn-cite-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A tariff value is a fixed price, in US dollars, that Indian customs uses to work out import duty on these goods. It replaces the price on the invoice for the duty sum.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In short, customs in India now uses new dollar prices for edible oils, brass scrap and gold when it calculates duty. The duty on a shipment follows these table prices, not the price the buyer paid.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who issued Notification No. 75\/2026?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, part of India&#8217;s Ministry of Finance, issued Notification No. 75\/2026-Customs (N.T.) in New Delhi on Sept. 15, 2026<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>. It uses powers under sub-section (2) of section 14 of the Customs Act, 1962<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The notification changes an older one, No. 36\/2001-Customs (N.T.), dated Aug. 3, 2001<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>. That 2001 notification holds the list of tariff values. The new text replaces all three of its tables<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The last change before this one was Notification No. 72\/2026-Customs (N.T.), dated Aug. 31, 2026<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>. The file number is F. No. 467\/01\/2026-Cus.V, and Under Secretary Indrajit Panda signed it<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the new values for palm and soybean oil?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first table sets values in US dollars per metric tonne<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>. Customs applies the duty rate to these dollar values, not to the price a buyer paid.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How much does brass scrap change?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brass scrap of all grades, under tariff item 7404 00 22, now has a tariff value of <strong>$8,218 per tonne<\/strong><sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>. The same 2025 notification put crude palm oil at $1,030 per tonne and crude soybean oil at $1,134 per tonne<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-2\">2<\/a><\/sup>. The new values are well above those levels.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happens to gold, silver and areca nuts?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second table covers gold and silver under chapter 71 or 98<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>. Gold imported with the benefit of serial number 194 of Notification No. 45\/2025-Customs, dated Oct. 24, 2025, has a value of <strong>$1,373 per 10 grams<\/strong><sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"hsn-fig hsn-fig--solid hsn-fig--v2\" data-at=\"what-happens-to-gold-silver-and-areca-nuts\">\n  <div class=\"hsn-fig__cards\">\n    <h4>What changed, and what did not<\/h4>\n    <div class=\"hsn-fig__card\" data-series=\"1\">\n      <strong>Gold<\/strong>\n      <span>New value: $1,373 per 10 grams<\/span>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"hsn-fig__card\" data-series=\"2\">\n      <strong>Silver<\/strong>\n      <span>No change: $2,028 per kilogram<\/span>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"hsn-fig__card\" data-series=\"2\">\n      <strong>Areca nuts<\/strong>\n      <span>No change: $11,574 per metric ton<\/span>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n  <div class=\"hsn-fig__key\">\n    <span class=\"hsn-fig__keyitem\" data-series=\"1\">New value<\/span>\n    <span class=\"hsn-fig__keyitem\" data-series=\"2\">Unchanged<\/span>\n  <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Silver imported with the benefit of serial number 195 of the same 2025 notification stays at $2,028 per kilogram<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>. The notification marks this figure &quot;no change&quot;<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The table also has entries for silver, silver coins and medallions with at least 99.9% silver, and for gold bars, gold coins and gold findings<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>. Gold findings are small jewellery parts such as hooks, clasps and pins<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>. These two entries do not apply to goods brought in by post, courier or baggage<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The third table covers areca nuts under code 080280<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>. Their value stays at $11,574 per metric ton, again marked &quot;no change&quot;<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How does the tariff value affect a shipment?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The value on the invoice does not set the duty for these goods. Customs multiplies the duty rate by the tariff value in the table. When the table value goes up, the duty paid on each tonne goes up too, even if the buyer&#8217;s contract price is lower.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Board updates these tables often. The August 2025 notification replaced the same three tables<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-2\">2<\/a><\/sup>. An October 2019 notification did the same, and at that time it also listed poppy seeds<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-3\" id=\"hsn-cite-3\">3<\/a><\/sup>. Poppy seeds do not appear in the September 2026 tables<sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When do the new tariff values apply?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The notification states that it comes into force on <strong>Sept. 16, 2026<\/strong><sup class=\"hsn-cite\"><a href=\"#hsn-ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>.
