Uruguay has suspended imports of live birds, including day-old chicks, hatching eggs, and fresh poultry meat from Argentina and Chile as a direct response to high-pathogenicity avian influenza outbreaks in both countries. These measures remain in effect until an updated sanitary risk assessment is completed by the Directorate-General of Livestock Services in accordance with international protocols1, 2, 3. The restrictions specifically exclude heat-treated meat and egg products, which are considered safe under current standards4

Argentina Outbreak Response

Repeal of Previous Restrictions

Uruguay has officially repealed the temporary suspension of imports from Argentina, effective October 1, 2025, following a formal risk assessment and the issuance of Resolution No. 306/2025, which nullifies prior restrictions established under Resolution No. 247/20254

General Sanitary Framework

A comprehensive sanitary framework was established under Resolution No. 059/2026, which applies to the entire territory of Argentina and outlines measures to prevent the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza, including import suspensions for various avian products1
